About this deal

This theme is personified by Arthur himself and is illuminated by the first person story telling of Derfel.

If you are looking for characters that will elicit emotional responses from you, you will find them all here. But the quest soon unravels the fragile peace, as bitter rivalries come to the fore and threaten to undo Arthur's successes. What does Jonathan Keeble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book? I want to reach the conclusion of the series and discover what shall happen to these superb characters, but I am also dreading what is to come, I fear there will be many more tears. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.When the Lord has given you rest from your pain and turmoil and the hard service with which you were made to serve, you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: “How the oppressor has ceased, the insolent fury ceased! They defeat the Christians, but afterward Derfel decides to travel south separately from Arthur to find his mother, whom he has not seen since she was captured in a raid when he was very young. I felt myself empathising with him so much more as he struggles internally in regards to doing what he believes is right, and what he is bound to do; as well as his own wants and desires.

The political manoeuvrings, personal quests, mix of diverse personalities, and the unpredictable relationships between male and female characters, makes for captivating reading. The more realistic setting takes away the magical aspects of the tale and shows how it was mostly "spells" that focused on the credulity of the superstitious people. Their footsteps will not stir a rush on the floor nor frighten the mice that live in the monastery’s thatched roof.Derfel refuses to support his rival's election to the cult of Mithras as he knows that Lancelot is no warrior. How does God view a believer who once walked with Him and knew the power of the Holy Spirit but has now become so entangled in the world that he hardly ever picks up his Bible to read it, rarely prays, and comes to church only if it “fits” into his schedule of things to do?

Eventually Ceinwyn spurns Lancelot so she can be with Derfel and this creates problems with an already difficult relationship with Lancelot. Derfel makes a desperate bid to claim Ceinwyn, but finds himself on a journey with the mysterious Merlin to find an artifact Merlin claims will bring the old gods back to Britain. the ladies are a bit hard to listen to in a falsetto that given the narrators masculine gravelly voice is un-intentionally comedic. He is also the author of THE GRAIL QUEST series, set in the Hundred Years’ War, THE WARLORD chronicles, set in Arthurian Britain, a number of standalone novels, one non-fiction work on Waterloo and the series with which he began, the SHARPE series. Seeing fires burning on the other side of the Severn, Derfel discovers that Lancelot has suddenly attempted to usurp the Dumnonian throne by inciting religious unrest.I normally expect the middle book in a trilogy to slacken from the first book and allow a build-up to the last but this one is better and I’m excited to see what awaits in the third. Throughout His life, Jesus Christ was opposed by human and spiritual enemies as foretold in Genesis 3:15. I was much more engrossed this time round, it just felt like an overall, much, much better book than its predecessor. All through Israel’s history, the people of God contended with enemies committed to their destruction. Merlin is questing for relics that will bring the Old Gods to Britain, push out the Christian God and help Britain against the many invaders.

He takes a thread of known history and a bit of mythology, adds some literary licence and creates a book you can't put down. The love triangles are enthralling, where promises and oaths are fickle and risk of conflict threatens with destructive consequences. Jesus overcame every enemy, including death, so that His followers might be set free by His victory (Matthew 22:44; Philippians 2:9–11).Constantly subverting the power structures of Britan, she is an enigma and the spiritual torchbearer of the mysticism of Merlin. They also discover all of the missing Treasures of Britain, including the Cauldron, which had been hidden in Guinevere's temple to Isis. Cornwell was sent away to Monkton Combe School, attended the University of London, and after graduating, worked as a teacher. Lancelot's rebellion quickly loses momentum as word of Caer Cadarn's fall spreads and warriors from Dumnonia begin to rally to Arthur's side. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle; and crafted in gold were your settings and your engravings.
