About this deal

If you’re lucky enough to still have provision areas in KS1, then you could use our Great Fire of London colouring sheets as a great introduction to the topic. It contains all the information you need to teach the topic to a greater depth, whether it is the first time or if you want to refresh your knowledge and find out some fun facts to keep the subject lively. Reading Riddle provides ideas, resources, information and experiences related to reading and the Great Fire of London.

Since so much had been destroyed, the buildings in London had to be rebuilt, but they used stone and brick instead of wood this time – very sensibly! They have been made with Key Stage 1 in mind and I have used these to make a class book for the book corner or library where children can share their ideas about books.

Many, many people were left homeless and lost all of their possessions – which must have been incredibly difficult, as most people were poor to begin with. He kept a diary and wrote about the fire, this gives us a lot of first-hand information about what happened. Using drama techniques ask the children to move around the classroom as if it is the street and communicate with each other in role.

Key vocabulary for the history topic, the Great Fire of London, with illustrations to support KS1 children of varying abilities. A mixture of images of materials and clues from 1666 and now that lead to discussion about things that caused the Great Fire to spread. There are lots of creative things you can include in this topic to really bring the topic to life, and fire up children’s imaginations.Without Samuel Pepys, and his writings, we would have far less information about the fire, how it started, and how it was eventually stopped.

They could be used by groups working independently, for example as a guided reading activity, or in a book corner. This is not a lesson resource book, but was written as a fun activity book, which could be used as homework - the contents are listed below and can be seen on the attached video. This 6 minute video shows the evidence for the fire starting at Pudding Lane in Thomas Farriner's bakery. During the drama session, ask the children to go to sleep, they hear noises; screams andcrackling awake them. For other free resources, information about the Vlad history stories school visits and Skype sessions visit www. These mini-books are great for encouraging children’s writing, and they love folding everything up to make a fun little book – great for having out on display, or sending home for parents to see.
